Speaker's Staff
return to non-digital art

The bones and antique Japanese noisemaker on this are meant to announce that the Speaker has something to say. Material description below the image.

A fallen branch, painted and weathered. Parts of the same branch were carved into two "thorns" which stick out on the sides. An wooden Knight, broken and with chipped paint, adorns the top of this staff. A rusty iron ring, found on a beach in Alaska long ago rests on one of the "thorns" and will not slide off over the top. From the ring hang various bones, strung along with ancient stone beads, onto false sinew (the real stuff gets too brittle). Along with the bones is a cluster of irridescent cock freathers and an antique bone carving from Japan that I think of as a "cricket-clicker" for the sharp noise it makes.
