Behind the Mask
return to non-digital art

A plaster life-mask done while I contorted my face. The mask was then used as a mold and plaster poured inside. The resulting face was carved and painted and had glass eyes and animal teeth added, as well as hawthorn thorns, tacks, and rawhide. My wish was to portray what many hide beneath a pleasant facade, smiling while making judgements about others. For a better look at just the face, scroll down or click HERE.
