Demoneyes (Hazdaitya): These semispherical gems are dark green when cool, but begin to glow brighter green when warmed. At skin temperature, they radiate a 5' circle of bright green light. They are commonly found in the Icewind Mts.
Demongems: These gems are bright blue and have an inner crystalline structure that facilitates the casting of sleep-oriented spells. they can be used to break enchanted sleep and to give life to dreams and nightmares. Spellcasters use them by replacing the spell-matrix of the mind with that of the gem to focus and increase the power of the spell. Just as the passage of a spell erases the spell from the spellcaster's mind, so its passage destroys the gem, which shatters. Sometimes, a sufficiently strong mind can use the gem without formal training. (Read Matrices: a mystery story about demongems.)
Greyveil: Cloudy, translucent crystal that is found in long thin sheets; it diffracts light in an unusual manner that allows one to look through it and see through illusions and invisibility spells - the spells become hazy and the real image can barely be discerned. Often used in spectacles or visors by palace guards, greyveil makes regular sight difficult and causes eyestrain if worn for over a few hours at a time.
Heatdrink (Avertiis) : A black, hard stone that absorbs heat and light that has only been found in Saldon (and was mined out). Aseku believe that if a small stone of heatdrink is placed in a demon's mouth, it will kill it; but the demon will revived if the stone is removed.
Heartgems (Shulhu) : Certain beings, especially those from other planes, have these gems embedded in their hearts. The gems are very diverse, but all glow when another heartgem approaches (and thus allow warning if another such being approaches).
Mazeshard (Kus'rojdhi) : Mazeshards are long, multi-faceted crystals, colorless when unkeyed but a variety of hues when keyed. A mage can key a mazeshard to a specific area using certain spells, at which time the mage also determines the activating command or action for the mazeshard. The mazeshard can be used by anybody who knows the command or action. No mazeshard can be rekeyed to another area, or keyed to more than one location.
Phraetes: A decorative white, hard stone favored in Saldon and by the wealthy. Phraetes can be polished to a high shine and is sometimes marbleized with veins of darker colors: black-vein (purplish-black), blood-vein (deep red), moss-vein (pale green), silver-vein (metallic silver - beautiful but less durable), and gold-vein (a tawny red-gold, also beautiful but subject to crumbling).
Bloodkill (Cinnaph) : A blood-red metal used by the satamharanthu for weapons and currency that is deadly poison to human touch and taste. Extremely rare, and usually destroyed when found.
Chromium (Mermaya) : A dark metal the rainbow hue of oil on water, its colors extremely clear and sharp. It is similar to iron in strength and effort needed to be worked. Chromium is extremely expensive and rarely used for anything larger than a brooch, although the Troubadour's Sword Pavonine was forged of chromium.
Darkcloud (Morghit) : A cloudy black, lustreless metal with gradations of grey. Morghit is often used for soul-stealing swords and so-called "iron" flasks. It is extremely resistant to magic; thus, the rarity of such items, but their efficacy against powerful beings.
Ever (Hadar) : A grey, lustreless metal of great strenth and durability. While not very attractive, hadar is extremely valued, although hard to work. The bade'in often use hadar in constructing their great undermountain holdings.
Iceiron (Hyrmovar) : A silver-blue metal that is relatively conducive to enchantment and thus often used to make magic items, especially mirrors of scrying.
Moondark (Mohain) : A black metal with blue highlights that does not reflect even the brightest lights; the reflection is dulled to blue. Moondark is particularly favored by the drow. The Troubadour's Sword Nyctor was forged of mohain.
Roseflame (Frajhail) : A rosy metal that can be worked in the palest rose or the deepest blood-red, depending on the tempering formulae used. Frajhail is used for the decorations on the armor of the Heliochrys of the old Dominions.
Starsteel (Avasiva) : A silvery metal as strong as steel that rings like a bell when struck. It is often used for jewelry, but the grey elves have been known to work it into swords and armor. The Troubadour's Sword Palladios was forged of avasiva.
Venomsteel: A silvery, liquid metal that is poisonous if ingested or absorbed through the skin and into the blood. Venomsteel is extremely heavy and used as the core in torturer's swords to counterbalance the swing.
