Prophecy

Apocryphal:

This prophecy was said to have been originally written in kh'indaranya. Nobody knows what the prophecy means or whether it has been fulfilled yet, although there are libraries filled with scholarly speculation.

Thirteen watchers, halfdead all
Twelve survivors of the Fall
Eleven auguries to fulfill
Ten in darkness boding ill
Nine to see what isn't known
Eight to hide what must be shown
Seven seekers on the trail
Six attempts to make them fail
Five the days in which to act
Four to strengthen ancient pact
Three must waken into power
Two must sleep a timeless hour
One who hides must turn around
All together must be bound.

The Prophecy of the Theophany (?)

The bade'in priest Cedric argued in his journals that these events would come or had come to pass (see his journal for discussion). Post-Theophanic scholars have argued that these lines prophecied the Domination War and the Theophany.

Stone Girds the Lands
Shadows Hide the Stars
Death Champions the Young
Sun Dies and Returns
Mist Makes a Path
Crystal Watches Treason
Wood Challenges Sky
Stars Tread Earth
Veil Shrouds Madness
Mortals Rescue Time
Metal Summons Flesh

The Prophecy of Mordechai's Death

This prophecy was made by a valraven that appeared on Dominarch Mordechai's shoulder in DR 699. It was realized in DR 723 when "The Heroes of Tharsis" rescued the dominarch from an assassination attempt by Optimate Datherick Chillwind and the Archmage Dash Gerfalcon, who planned to use a sword-bound spirit of one of the dominarch's ancestors (see The Prophecy of Magicbane Minor, below) to circumvent the protections of the dominarchy.

Dark the falcon walks in shade
Softly mourns the weeping blade
Kin to kin, quick and dead,
Bitter, one's own blood to shed.

The Prophecy of "Magicbane" Minor

The first two stanzas of this prophecy - the real prophecy - had become a child's skipping rope rhyme by the time it was unravelled by the "Heroes of Tharsis." The last stanza was written later by one of the Heroes in response to the restlessness of Magicbane's revenant. The herbs in the prophecy were used to bind "Magicbane"'s soul to the sword that was intended to kill Dominarch Mordechai. Magicbane has not yet been laid to rest, and still lives in a tomb in The City-State of Candor, where he is a popular figure and being nominated for the newly empty throne.

Strawberry, rosemary, periwinkle, thyme,
Heart's ease, foxglove, sweet columbine -
Fall down, rise again, run away, hide;
Once gone, back again, Magicbane died.

Aconite, amaranth, chamomile, thyme,
Byrony, misteltoe, sweet columbine -
Turn around, look again, what is spied?
Once gone, back again, somebody lied.

Cinquefoil, marjoram, coriander, thyme,
Comfrey, cinnamon, sweet columbine -
Lie down, sleep again, everybody cried;
Once gone, back again, Magicbane tried.

The Prophecy of the White One

This rhyme was used to key a gemstone-studded sigil of binding that had been used by Ydhailan before recorded history to bind the Psimaster Heishrat, who would otherwise have stopped him from carrying out the disastrous experiment that ended up shattering Yijan Jalil. This rhyme was successfully solved by a group of adventurers who freed Heishrat and destroyed Eidolon before he suceeded in becoming one of the dragons-imperate. The names refer to Dragon Stars.

Farris guards the northern night against the morning's rise
While Vadriel follows in flight with brooding, ancient eyes.
Abasdarhon coils round the moon and watches for the dawn,
While Ambiel waits in the ruin until the pattern's drawn.
Cardiel shifts in restless sleep and dreams of eldren fears
And uneasily begins to weep; three fall his icy tears.
Sarindiel below him reigns in blood-red robes of death,
Warning that the evening wanes with every indrawn breath.
Ansiel guards the southern skies, and yet the warding fails
For to the east Advachiel cries: Beware, the night sky pales!
