To the king's most excellent majesty, the archon of Cislunar, etc., etc.,
Rayald:
As per your request, here are the remaining documents salvaged from Archmagus Persifal's tower after the explosion. I'm sorry that we retrieved so little, but the detonation pattern was carefully planned to wreak the maximum damage possible. These pages were trapped under a large metal slab of what I expect was her safebox, and thus escaped the fire.
I wish I could tell you what caused this explosion, but at the moment we are investigating two equally possible explanations. First, it's possible that the explosion was a timed response to the archmage's disappearance. FarSeer correspondence with experts at Wythucarn University indicates that such a warding mechanism is not impossible, although it would be the hallmark of a particularly paranoid mage. I think this description is not entirely inappropriately applied to our esteemed patron. Second, it is possible that this is the work of one of the archmage's enemies - possibly of the Sacrament Sanguis. If so, we must expect that the SS either set off a magical trap, resulting in the explosion, or set the explosion itself after thoroughly searching her tower for any useful information. If the latter scenario is the case, then I fear we are all in grave danger - no pun intended, Rayald.
We have neither clerics nor mages of sufficient level to perform the level of divinatory search of the remains that would satisfy me. With your permission, I'd like to have the FarSeers contact the guild on Saldon and see if they will send somebody to us. What do you think about asking Spirildi Wands to make the trip over and help us out? He was here last summer and gave us a hand investigating that mining accident. Didn't even put up a fuss about being asked, and you know how rare that is for a spellslinger.
I'll drop by your offices tomorrow with the final report.
I have the honor to remain, etc. etc.
Wilhelm Trake
Commander of the Guard
Postscriptum: I don't think the green glow is anything to worry about. Algis says it's a special effect and should fade in a few days - something about alchemical miscibility side-effects. At least it's keeping the looters away.
