Letter About Bragi (Theophany)

Fading 20, 850

Exalt Earl-Filius Secundus Philip Ilzimmer II:

I regret to inform you that Bragi Gudrunsson (aka the Abhorred) was found dead in his cell early this morning by the jailer on duty. The examining physician estimates that Bragi was under knife and flame for approximately six hours before death, putting the time of death at between 13:00 and 6:00 a.m., or exactly between the graveyard and dawn shifts' guard changes. While an autopsy has not yet been carried out, the physical believes that Bragi was tortured by two or more individuals with some skill.
Interestingly, the jailer on duty was only in the other room, approximately five yards away, and made two cell-block checks during the alleged period of torture. We assume magic was used to eliminate sound and sight, but have reason to believe no member of the Order was involved. Petition to send the case to the templars for investigation has been presented, and we expect a reply within three days.
You are advised that this case is currently being kept sub rosa, and further inquiries will not be welcome. I will attempt to inform you if there seems to be any further developments that might be relevant to you or your friends, and I would appreciate being appraised of any suspicions or suggestions you or your acquaintances may have in turn. It is unlikely that this death will be linked to you or that you are in any danger from those who killed Bragi, but you may wish to exercise caution until you hear that the perpetrators have been apprehended.
