Journal Excerpts: The Circumstances Leading to Sin Selling His Soul to SkinEater to Kill a Priest

May 1, 3042

Sin's pissed at Brandon, and I can't really blame him, although I'm staying out of it as much as I can. I knew that priest was danger as soon as I saw him÷Brandon was foolish to keep me from killing him. So what if he hadn't actively threatened us yet? He was certainly doing his best to stir up trouble. You don't wait until your life's endangered before seeing a cleric about curing a cold÷and that Sarak was as dangerous as the plague. My gut instincts aren't often wrong. Anyway, now that he has Femir [Sin's dragonnette familiar], Sin's in danger, and less than happy with Brandon's moral excuses. This entire situation proves that Father was right when he advised me not to take a familiar.

Sin paid SkinEater to retrieve Femir, and not only got his dragonnette back, but Sarek's hand. He's delighted÷wants to have the hand enchanted into "enemy detection." Probably a good idea.

Sin just realized that the priest whose hand he has÷who took Femir÷may be hunting him down. He's currently making plans for his safety back in Glenzor.

Sin got caught. Hours after docking. The idiot read his mail without taking any precautions, and a magical trap caught him. He lost an arm and is in the temple of Aphrodite regenerating. I'm not that upset÷his humor was, as always, in the worst taste when I lost my leg and Danny was beheaded, so I felt justified in mocking him back. He wants help, but to hell with him. He make one joke too many about Danny's fate on the long overland to Parthinon.

Talked to the priest at the theater. Sarek was polite and gave me Sin's telekinesis ring, asked for help. I'm pleased with the gift÷always did admire it÷but decided I couldn't help him. (1) Sin claims I owe him my life, which is debateable, but just in case, I'd better discharge that karmic debt ASAP, and (2) in the guild, aiding in the death of another guildmember is considered gauche, and finally (3) despite Sin's obnoxiousness, Callous and Danny might be upset if I betrayed him in cold blood, and weakling that I am, I value their opinion of me. Still, I did promise not to interfere on Sin's behalf, either.

NOTE: Not long after this, Sin sold part of his soul to the evil conjurer SkinEater in exchange for Sarek's death
